February 11, 2012 Saron will be serving a midwinter gourmet dinner in the fellowship hall, cooked by Saron’s own Chef Extraordinaire. Appetizers, shrimp and pineapple salad, Cornish hens, wild rice,chocolate mousse and wine or Sparkling cider.Social hour at 6:00 pm with dinner to follow. $25 per person limited to 50 people. ELCA World Hunger Coin Boxes

There was once a large gathering of people who managed to feed themselves because of a miracle. More than 5000 men, women, and children had been listening to Jesus teach them many things. Night was fast approaching and the disciples, concerned about feeding so many people became nervous, for this was a deserted place. They asked Jesus to dismiss

the hungry crowd and send them on their way to find their own food. Frowning on this suggestion, Jesus challenged the disciples to feed the people. The disciples responded that it would cost them a year’s salary to feed all the people even one slice of bread each. Jesus told them to go among the people and see how many loaves of bread they had. The community’s resources were five loaves and two fish.

Jesus, taking the five loaves and the two fish, looked up to heaven, blessed and broke them, and gave them to his disciples to set before the people. And there was enough food to feed all of the people with some left over. Was then, the miracle simply the multiplying of the loaves and the fish?

Those, to whom much had been given, shared with those who had little—just as we do when we collect quarters for hunger. Our Synod Assembly theme this year is “Sowing Seeds of Hope: God’s work. Our hands. When we respond to the needs of others by sharing what we have been given, we are sowing seeds of hope. Our hunger dollars go to support food sustainability projects of our companion synod in Malawi. In addition, we are also supporting the work of ELCA World Hunger. When we share our own “loaves and fishes,” God’s work is indeed carried on with our hands!

Please bring your ELCA World Hunger boxes to church by Sunday, May 2^nd.

Circle of Grace is a worship service and a meal every 2nd and last Thursday of the month at 5:00p. Please consider being a volunteer or cooking at this joyful worship time. You will receive much more than you give. Sign up sheet is in the back of the church next to the Chapel.

Recycle your Cell Phones

Donate your old cell phones now to make a difference! Over 130 million cell phones and PDS’s will be retired this year in the US, but fewer than 10% are likely to be recycled?

Some can be fixed up and reprogrammed as 911 phones for use by domestic violence survivors, the elderly and others at risk. Materials from broken and obsolete phones and accessories can be reclaimed and used to create other things.

There will be a box in the narthex for you to bring your old cell phones and accessories to be recycled.

Please save your loose change for the 2 cent offering that is held on the last Sunday of each month. Each month a different cause is selected to receive the offering.
