The
2009 ELCA Youth Gathering
New
Orleans, Louisiana
July 22-26, 2009
Jesus Justice Jazz,
the theme for the
2009 ELCA Youth Gathering, draws from the rich faith history,
diverse cultures, and arts of New Orleans. It will stretch our
understanding of what it means to
live in relationship and service
with each other in the manner of Christ... for
life... wherever we are!
The Gathering
program will be different than Gatherings before. Planning teams
are working with local congregations and organizations, young
people, and the city to pay attention to what makes the city of
New Orleans unique, as well as better understanding the changes
it is going through as the entire Gulf Coast region continues to
recover after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The focus will be on
service and justice as we live our shared reality as Christians:
Marked with the cross of Christ forever, we are claimed,
gathered, and sent for the sake of the world.
What remains the same
about the Gathering is that youth and adults are immersed in
worship, music, Bible study, service, learning, play, prayer,
the witness of faithful
leaders from around the world, reflection, caring for others,
and new friendships. The Gathering is a time of change and
growth because we gather in the presence of God’s Spirit with
others who journey with Jesus.
If you interested in
going to New Orleans and you will be in 9th – 12th
grades during the 2009-2010 school year, please contact the
church office at 682-2376. If you are an adult and would like
to go to New Orleans, please contact the church office at
682-2376.

Cans for Saron

A pop/juice/water machine is in the fellowship hall! The aluminum
from the pop cans can be turned in for cash for Saron. There is a
container for clean & empty cans next to the pop machine.
Everyone is encouraged to bring your aluminum cans to Chicago Iron
and tell them to put it on the account for Saron Lutheran Church.
If you
don’t want to bring them to Chicago Iron then bring them to
church. The 1st Sunday of every month will be “bring
your cans to church”. If you need cans picked up at your house
please call the church office and we will make arrangements.
It takes only 32 cans to make a pound!
So far we have collected $510.00 from cans donated to the
church. If you have aluminum cans at your house but don’t want
to haul them to church, just call the church office 682-2376 and
we will have someone pick them up for you.
Faith Lens

Faith Lens is a free online weekly Bible study for youth.
It is posted every week and connects a current new story with
the Bible readings for the upcoming Sunday. It is written
by a different writer every week and is usually posted by
Tuesday. Check it out!

We are looking for a senior high youth
to join our Youth Committee. Please prayerfully consider being
a part of the planning team - we need you!
